2018 is already shaping up to be a stellar year for crime fiction, and today’s blog post adds yet another reason to look forward to the new year. I’m thrilled to share the cover reveal for psychological suspense author David Bell’s 2018 release, SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER (Berkley; on sale July 2018)! Bell is the bestselling author of novels including BRING HER HOME, SINCE SHE WENT AWAY, and more—and his 2018 release promises to deliver all the suspense and tension his fans have come to know and love, with an added bonus: SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER will be Bell’s first hardcover release! Bell's previous novels have been published in trade paperback, and this transition into hardcover marks the perfect moment for readers new to his work to dive in. Plus, if the book jacket is any indication, SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER is going to be a standout. (I know we're not supposed to judge books by their covers, but... I can't help it, this one is great!) SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER debuts a whole new look for Bell's thrillers, and I couldn't love it more. From plot to package, SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER seems right up CBTB's alley.
Before I get to the reveal itself, I’m delighted to share a Q&A with David that will give you a sneak peek into his forthcoming psychological suspense novel! Consider this your exclusive preview of a thriller you're sure to hear a whole lot more about in the new year. Read on for my Q&A with David, a bit more information about SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER, and (last but certainly not least!) the book's gorgeous cover!
AUTHOR Q&A: David Bell
Crime by the Book: SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER (July 2018) will be your first hardcover release - congratulations! Can you give us a little sneak peek of what readers can look forward to in this thriller?
David Bell: Michael Frazier has everything—a great job, a beautiful house, and a loving wife. But when his ex-wife, Erica, who he hasn’t seen in a decade, shows up on his doorstep one night, his life is turned upside down. Erica claims her daughter is missing and in danger, and she says Michael needs to help her look because the child is his, conceived shortly before their divorce. The action all takes place in the course of twelve hours on one long, hot, summer night.
CBTB: If you had to choose three adjectives to describe SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER, what would they be?
DB: Fast, surprising, emotional.
CBTB: How did you come up with the idea for SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER?
DB: Everyone has relationships in their past. This book asks the question--what if one of those relationships showed up out of the blue and put everything in your current life in jeopardy?
CBTB: SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER follows main character Michael as he races to uncover the truth about a daughter he never even knew he had. If you were to "introduce" us to Michael, how would you describe him?
DB: Michael is a successful guy, but he has some baggage from his past that he hasn't fully dealt with--his sister's death when he was a child, his starter marriage that failed in his twenties. When Erica shows up at his door, he is forced to come to grips with these unresolved problems in ways he couldn't have imagined. He has no idea what he's getting into.
CBTB: Readers have come to know (and love!) your writing through your bestselling novels including BRING HER HOME and SINCE SHE WENT AWAY. Are there common themes explored in your previous novels and SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER?
DB: I love writing about characters with secrets, things even their closest loved ones don't know about. Every character in SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER has a secret...and they all come out in the course of the novel. To say more would ruin all the fun!
Book Details: SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER
In the pulse-racing new suspense novel from the bestselling and acclaimed author of Bring Her Home and Since She Went Away, the life of a little girl rests in the hands of the father who never even knew she existed...
When Michael Frazier's ex-wife, Erica, shows up on his doorstep pleading for help, she drops a bombshell that threatens to rip his family apart: Erica's nine-year-old daughter is missing--and Michael is the father. Unable to quickly determine if Erica is telling the truth, and unwilling to leave the little girl's fate to chance, Michael has no choice but to follow the elusive trail of the child he has always wanted and never knew he had.
But finding Felicity comes at a price--the closer Michael gets to the truth, the further into jeopardy his marriage falls and the faster his family begins to unravel. As lies that span a decade bubble to the surface and the window for Felicity's safe return closes, Michael will have just a few short days to decide who can be trusted and who is hiding the truth.
