#ReadWithCBTB: THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE by Shirley Jackson

September 27, 2020

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Halloween season, of course! To celebrate Halloween, #ReadWithCBTB is getting a creepy twist: for our next book pick, we’ll be reading and discussing Shirley Jackson’s classic work of Gothic horror—THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE. We will be joined this month by one of my personal favorite authors, Riley Sager, who will be our guest host for this Halloween edition of #ReadWithCBTB! I hope you’ll consider joining us!

#ReadWithCBTB: JAR OF HEARTS by Jennifer Hillier

August 8, 2020

For our next #ReadWithCBTB book selection, we’re throwing it back to a slightly-older title that I simply cannot believe I haven’t read yet. I’ve been hearing nothing but fantastic things about JAR OF HEARTS by Jennifer Hillier for well over a year now, and I finally bought myself a copy of the book as a birthday gift to myself this summer. I am so excited to dive into this book, and I hope you guys will join me in reading it this month! You’ll find all the information you need to join this buddy read and book discussion in this post.

#ReadWithCBTB: HOME BEFORE DARK by Riley Sager

June 29, 2020

A new month is upon us—and it’s bringing with it one of my personal most-anticipated releases of 2020. That’s right: Riley Sager’s HOME BEFORE DARK is finally here, and we are going to celebrate by making it our next #ReadWithCBTB buddy read selection! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be buddy-reading Riley Sager’s spine-tingling suspense novel HOME BEFORE DARK, which just published in the US this week! HOME BEFORE DARK is a chilling thriller about a young woman who returns to the home her family owned when she was young, and confronts the ghosts of her past… and a few ghosts that seem all too real, too. This month, we’ll be joined by the amazing Jennifer Hillier, the author of Little Secrets, Jar of Hearts, and more, to discuss HOME BEFORE DARK at the end of the month! Jennifer is a fantastic suspense writer in her own right, and I was so fortunate to get to know her a little bit earlier this spring when I interviewed her over Instagram Live. I am so excited to discuss Riley Sager’s new release HOME BEFORE DARK with her, and with you all!

#ReadWithCBTB: THE SON by Jo Nesbø

May 23, 2020

I am so thrilled to share a brand-new virtual event series launching on Crime by the Book this summer: #ReadWithCBTB! This virtual event series will provide crime readers from around the world the chance to come together to read and discuss a CBTB-approved crime novel. Book discussions will take place over Zoom Webinar, and each book discussion will pair yours truly with a different guest host to join in the conversation! These guest hosts will be crime writers, but here’s the fun catch: they will NOT be the author of the book we’re discussing. The idea here is to bring all different voices and perspectives to share in the crime book-discussing fun! Many of our book discussions moving forward will be pegged to new crime fiction releases, but for our first #ReadWithCBTB event, I just had to start with a book by my personal favorite author, Jo Nesbø. Our first #ReadWithCBTB pick will be Jo Nesbø’s brilliant standalone novel THE SON—a chilling revenge thriller set in Oslo, Norway. For our first #ReadWithCBTB event, I am so, so excited to be joined by Gilly Macmillan, internationally-bestselling author of numerous psychological suspense novels including The Nanny and What She Knew, to discuss THE SON in June!
